Use this retaining wall block calculator for early planning of small landscape retaining walls, garden walls, raised beds, and hardscape borders. Segmental walls need more than visible blocks: cap blocks, base gravel, drainage stone, geogrid, setbacks, and engineering requirements may all matter.

Backfill volume = wall length x backfill width x backfill height.
A wall 30 ft long and 3 ft high using blocks with an 18 inch face length and 6 inch height needs 6 rows. Each row needs 20 blocks, so the base count is 120 wall blocks. With 5% waste, plan about 126 blocks. If cap blocks cover 18 inches each, the top course needs about 20 caps before waste.
