This calculator uses a simple planning formula: battery amp hours multiplied by usable capacity, then divided by average amp draw. A 100Ah battery with 80% usable capacity gives you about 80 usable amp hours. If the motor averages 30 amps, the estimate is 80 divided by 30, or about 2.7 hours.

The key word is average. A trolling motor rarely draws the same current all day. Slow positioning along a bank may use far less power than fighting wind, current, weeds, or a heavy boat. If you only know the motor's maximum amp draw, use that number for a conservative estimate. If you have a battery monitor or manufacturer chart, use the amp draw that matches your normal speed setting.
