Use this paver calculator when planning a patio, walkway, landing, parking pad, or driveway border. Paver projects need more than surface square footage: you also need waste for cuts, a compacted base, bedding sand, edging, and sometimes a different base depth for foot traffic versus vehicles.
Area = project length x project width.
Paver face area = paver length x paver width.
Base paver count = project area / paver face area.
Order pavers = base count x (1 + waste percentage), rounded up.
Base gravel cubic yards = area x base depth in feet / 27.
A 16 ft by 12 ft patio is 192 square feet. If each paver covers 0.22 square feet, the base count is about 873 pavers. With 8% waste for cuts and breakage, order about 943 pavers. A 4 inch compacted gravel base under 192 square feet needs about 2.37 cubic yards before adding base overage.
Use the Paver Calculator result as a starting quantity, then convert it into the way your supplier actually sells the material. Some stores sell by bag, each, pallet, strap, ton, cubic yard, or delivered load. Ask whether the quoted price includes delivery, fuel surcharge, pallet deposit, short-load fee, tax, unloading limits, or return rules. For outdoor projects, also check access for trucks, where material can be staged, whether the ground is firm enough for delivery, and how long the work area can stay open if weather changes.
For a safer order, write down the measurements used in the calculator, the waste percentage, the product size or density, and the final rounded quantity. Bring those notes to the supplier or contractor so they can catch unit mistakes before money is spent. If the project affects drainage, support, vehicle traffic, steps, walls, posts, or anything inspected by code, treat the calculator as a planning aid and verify the final material list with a qualified local source.

Use it for early quantity planning, but driveway pavers need stronger base design, edge restraint, and compaction.
